Route & Safety Briefing

When we started planning the route for our Backyard Ultra, we figured that if a runner chooses to run multiple laps, we’d make it interesting and challenging, but not too challenging… because that would be harsh. Anyone who’s ever met Ollie would say that he's light on hills.

…Oh no, wait, No one has ever said that about Ollie.

Our route is set on private trails made only by the local wildlife. Starting and finishing at our event camp, it skirts around open fields and sheltered woodland. The highest point, Bugmore Hill Trig Point, gives views across the South Downs and the Candovers; if you're still running, you’ll get fantastic sunset views over rolling Hampshire countryside before you enter Godsfield Copse, a short trail through the woods will have you returning to base camp, ready to refuel and raring to go again.

Race Directors

Ollie and Philip

Ollie here, one of your race directors for The Backyard Ultra. Get ready for a one-of-a-kind trail running experience! Our camp is nestled in the serene landscapes of rural Hampshire, carefully chosen to give you the ultimate trail-running adventure weekend. We've worked closely with landowners to craft a route that's second to none.

At Blended Trails, we're known for our top-notch routes, which have plenty of elevation and are packed with variety. Our Backyard Ultra route is no exception. We've been running, mapping, and tweaking to ensure every kilometre is perfect. You'll traverse varying terrain, from flint-covered sections to scenic wooded paths with views of the Candovers and glimpses of the South Downs. As you pass Bugmore Hill's trig point and venture into Godsfield Copse, you'll be immersed in ancient woodland with nature-made trails that weave between the trees. Watch out for the herds of wild deer that may cross your path.

But here's the kicker

We've strategically positioned the start and finish line for an epic finish. Picture yourself running a stunning woodland downhill section out of Godsfield Copse views over the Candovers, followed by a sharp turn and a final uphill push to clock in under the hour. You’ll likely need to dig deep to push through the finish line!

Get ready for hills, stunning views, and a route that's as challenging as it is rewarding. Expect ancient woodlands, field sidings, and gravel tracks in a precise 6.706k. On a technical scale of 1 to 10, we're giving this route a solid 8, so be prepared for some exciting footing.

Oh, and did I mention there'll be a water station and a deck chair waiting for you at the halfway point? Plus, we've got a surprise in store to keep you motivated—details will be revealed at event registration.
